Zarazua's August reads like a series of matches that slip through her fingers. She frustrated Clara Tauson for a set in Monterrey, won it 6-3, then took two games in the next two sets. Toronto told the same story in reverse against Tamara Korpatsch: a blank middle set, then a storm home.
Iatcenko has spent the week finding answers instead. She controlled Julie Struplova, absorbed a mid-match dip against Lucia Bronzetti to win in three, then closed out Andrea Lazaro Garcia 7-5 6-1, pushing harder after a rain break rather than cooling off. Her ball comes flat and early; Zarazua wants height, slice and one extra shot.

The pattern is simple enough to watch for. If Zarazua's serve lands short, Iatcenko steps in and the point is over in three strokes — Leylah Fernandez showed exactly that route in Toronto. The counterweight is the Russian's second serve, which came apart against Claire Liu in Cincinnati and is the one crack Zarazua can prise open.
Still, the confidence, the rhythm and the court familiarity all sit on the debutante's side of the net, and the price rewards it.
