Gordon must keep the Rockies out of the middle innings
Tanner Gordon is listed to start after his deepest and most convincing outing of the season. He worked ahead, changed speeds and finished hitters without overpowering them, the sort of clean sequencing that earns another look in Colorado’s rotation.
That formula becomes less forgiving at altitude, where reduced movement can flatten secondary pitches and predictable fastballs find barrels. Gordon’s changeup can disrupt the Orioles’ left-handed bats, but Pete Alonso and Coby Mayo give him no soft landing from the right side.

Povich brings sharp command and a short résumé

His latest Norfolk outing featured little traffic and plenty of swing-and-miss, but carrying that breaking-ball shape into Coors is a different examination.
Povich also spent time on the injured list with left-elbow inflammation earlier this season, though no fresh setback has been reported. As a same-day recall facing a potentially right-handed Colorado order, he may not receive the leash of an established rotation regular.

The bullpen is usable rather than pristine. Yennier Cano has worked on consecutive days, but Andrew Kittredge and several middle-relief alternatives are rested; the danger is exposing those middle innings early if Povich cannot settle.

Too many routes lead to an early bullpen game

A weather interruption would raise the chance of both clubs reaching middle relief before planned. Even without a delay, Coors can turn modest command misses into crooked innings through carry, wide gaps and extended plate appearances.
Colorado’s conventional relievers are rested, and the Orioles still have several fresh alternatives behind Cano. Those are real checks on the total, but neither bullpen is guaranteed a clean entry if the starters leave traffic behind.
