One clean opener, one familiar service problem
Potapova dismissed world No. 109 Darja Semenistaja 6-2, 6-2, serving ten aces despite several pressured service games. Her hard-court level has fluctuated, but the heavier defeats came against opponents able to absorb her first strike and redirect it with authority.
Jeanjean handled important moments well in a 7-6(6), 6-2 win over Arantxa Rus, saving a set point and breaking back immediately after losing serve. Seven double faults were less reassuring, particularly after Fręch and Stefanini had already found regular access to her delivery this summer.
The second serve should decide the margin
Jeanjean needs height, slower shapes and longer exchanges to move Potapova away from a clean hitting rhythm. The difficulty is getting that pattern started: Potapova stands close on return, takes the ball early and should see plenty of second serves to attack.
Jeanjean's improved composure gives her a chance to resist if the opening set turns awkward, while Potapova's recently reported back concern remains a modest caveat. Still, if Potapova produces anything close to her first-round level, repeated pressure on Jeanjean's serve should create the five-game margin required.
